Review: Nature versus Nurture is at the heart of WHAT LIES WITHIN. Shelley Marano is an only child and is closest to her dad and her best friend, Winston. Things have been tough for Shelley since her mom died, but she’s looking forward to going away to college in the fall. However, Shelley’s life is forever changed with she received a text message from a man claiming to be her brother telling her she’s marked for death. When Shelley confronts her father about her parentage, she gets another shock as he tells her she’s adopted. Now she’s trying to find out about her birth parents and things just aren’t adding up. WHAT LIES WITHIN has an interesting premise and reminds me a little bit of an NA version of Follett’s 'The Third Twin'. The characters are solid and the plot moves along quickly as there is revelation after twisted revelation. It is clear by the ending there is room for sequels, if the author chooses to go in that direction. WHAT LIES WITHIN asks the fundamental question of “Who am I?” and sometimes the answers aren’t what you’d expect.
