Synopsis:  An unexpected phone call heralds a new challenge for Mercy. Her mate Adam’s ex-wife is in trouble, on the run from her new boyfriend. Adam isn’t the kind of man to turn away a person in need—and Mercy knows it. But with Christy holed up in Adam’s house, Mercy can’t shake the feeling that something about the situation isn’t right.

Soon, her suspicions are confirmed when she learns that Christy has the farthest thing from good intentions. She wants Adam back and she’s willing to do whatever it takes to make it happen, including turning Adam’s pack against Mercy.

Mercy isn’t about to step down without a fight, but there’s a more dangerous threat circling. Christy’s ex is more than a bad man—in fact, he may not be human at all. As the bodies start piling up, Mercy must put her personal troubles aside to face a creature with the power to tear her whole world apart.

Review: When Adam’s ex-wife calls because she’s in trouble – on the run from her ex-boyfriend, Mercy isn’t particularly thrilled to invite her into their home. Plus Mercy suspects there’s something not quite right with what Christy is telling them about this man. As usual, Christy doesn’t have anyone’s best interests at heart except her own, not even her daughter’s. She’s scheming to reclaim Adam and the pack from Mercy. When Mercy is attacked at the garage, she realizes Christy’s ex is much more than a human stalker. Not willing to go down without a fight, Mercy calls on allies and finds a few she didn’t even know she had before. Will Mercy, her allies, and the pack be enough to defeat this new enemy?

NIGHT BROKEN shows us a deeper look into Adam and Mercy’s marriage, especially how they deal with threats to their happiness. I LOATHED Christy! I hated what she did to Adam, Jessie, Mercy, and the pack. She’s a vindictive b**ch and stupidly selfish. Christy’s underhandedness and manipulative nature show clearly how right Mercy is for Adam. The difference between them is night and day – I can’t see why Adam ever was involved with Christy. I really wondered if Christy is part Fae with her ability to project helplessness and cause those around her to want to take care of her. The appearance of Coyote and the new addition of Gary Laughingdog was awesome! I think it’s a testament to the author that she can create characters which cause such a visceral reaction in readers. NIGHT BROKEN is well-written and exciting adventure with emotional depth. I love this series and I liked the closer look at the pack dynamics, Mercy’s relationship with Coyote and her new-found “brother”, and the interesting and powerful ex-boyfriend of Christy’s. NIGHT BROKEN is a welcome and enjoyable addition to the Mercy Thompson series!
