Interview: Q. Please tell us about the inspiration for your current release.
Arkstone was inspired mainly by J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Silmarillion, and the whole concept of the world being created in a more magical way. The world that Tolkien created is so detailed and beautiful that I tried to create my world in the same manner, but my major inspiration was simply the enjoyment of writing a book. There is nothing more satisfying than grabbing an idea and letting your mind run away with it until you realize that you have in fact finished the story…until the next idea at least.
Q. How did writing this book affect you?
Writing this book was a very enjoyable and exciting experience and at times I had to force myself to stop and get on with university work, the sense of achievement when the book was completed has given me the energy to start transforming my next idea into a novel. Writing this book has affected me most by the genuine joy of accomplishment in your stomach, I can’t wait to get my hands on that again.
Q. Is there anything you haven’t written about that you would like to in the future?
Were to start! WW2 is a major part of history that I would like explore more, and I have plenty of ideas for characters for a physiological thriller. I’m certain at some point I will write a romantic comedy, the two things that everyone in the world can relate to! Space and time travel done it a very realistic way can make a fantastic book, perhaps a cloud Atlas inspired timeline through multiple centuries . I could go on for a while here… it’s safe to say I won’t be running out of ideas for my next book any time soon.
Q. Which of your characters would you want to be and why?
Argyros (Ar-jey-ros) in a heartbeat, who wouldn’t want to be a Lion that happened to be a god?
Q. Do you plan any subsequent books?
In terms of an Arkstone sequel, should I ever get round to one, it would most likely be bringing the magic, mayhem , quirkiness and animals from the novel into the madness and mayhem of the earth, I can already imagine a lot of comical scenarios, though what the actual plot would be I have no idea!
The current book I am writing is getting me really excited, it is a complete U turn from the Fantasy of Arkstone and dives into the realms of altering the outcome of WW2 and the effects this has on a certain serial killer Leonidas Diavallo, written from the killer’s dual perspectives.
Q. What are you currently reading?
I am currently reading Hannibal Rising, having read the Hannibal trilogy I don’t know how I have let it slip through my fingers for so long! It is a fantastic read.
Q. All of the books you’ve read, which book has impacted you the most?
Harry Potter. All seven of them. Having queued up for midnight releases from book five onwards, they virtually took over my childhood, and I couldn’t wish for a better book to have done so. It is still my “cheer up” book series today.
Q. Please tell us your latest news (book-related or not!).
I got engaged to the most beautiful girl in the world, which in my soppy emotional times might have overflowed a tiny bit into Arkstone. You may know what I mean if you have read some of the more romantic scenes. In all honesty I could not be happier.
Q. Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?
Thank you. From the bottom of my heart, truly, Thank you.
