Interview: Q. Please tell us about your current release.

First, thank you so much for hosting me.  I'm very excited to be here!  My current release, ‘The Right Temptation’, is Story Two of a Latin Heat Trilogy published by Lyrical Press.  Here's a blurb:

Kayla Martinez has recently landed an RN position at a prestigious hospital in her hometown. The new job is everything she’s hoped for, especially when one hot specimen shows up in the ER. She hasn’t seen her childhood crush in years, and considering how much hotter he’s gotten over time, she almost ends up needing resuscitation.

The last thing Nico LaCosta needs is a broken arm. Now his pal’s kid sister wants to soothe his pain, but he’d rather keep his distance so her big brother doesn’t break his other arm.  Kayla’s no child anymore, though. She’s one hot-blooded woman, determined to remind him of a mind-blowing kiss back when they were teenagers. Leave it to Kayla to drop by his house unannounced and play Nurse Seductive. A guy has to follow the buddy code, or face the consequences. Still, sometimes giving in to temptation is worth it…

Q. How did writing this book affect you?

I had a lot of fun with the characters, especially the hero.  Working his broken arm into the story, especially the sex scenes, proved interesting.   So glad I went with my gut instinct.  Nico's cast didn't detract from the romance.  If anything, I think it made it hotter!

Q. Can you tell us about the journey that led you to writing?

Unlike most authors, I didn't know I was destined to write.  In fact, I worked in banking for many years, but deep down knew that it wasn't my dream job.

At the young age of thirty-five, my sister died of an illness.  I realized the same thing could happen to me.  There are no guarantees.  I couldn't waste another moment doing something I didn't love.

Writing was one of my greatest joys when I was growing up.  While still working at the bank, I decided to enroll in an intensive course where I learned everything I could about the craft.  It didn't take long before I left the bank to pursue a writing career.

Q. What is the hardest part of writing for you?

I think the hardest part is striking a balance between writing and marketing.  With today's technology and social media, authors can spend countless hours promoting their work.  It's important to reach out to readers.  Yet at the same time, a writer must write.

Q. Do you have a musical playlist you listen to while writing? If so, what kind of music?

I love music, but not while I'm working because it's distracting.  When I'm not writing, I listen to pop, R & B, salsa and dance club mixes.

Q. What would you say is your most interesting writing quirk?

Not sure if it's interesting...  Whenever I start a new book, it has to have a title.  For some reason, it helps shape the story for me.

Q. Do you plan any subsequent books?

Yes!  I'm in the process of completing Story Three of my Latin Heat Trilogy. ‘Playing with Destiny’ will wrap up the series.

"Matchmaker, matchmaker, bring me a babe.  That's all Christian expected from an online dating service.  He gets a lot more when, unwittingly, he's hooked up with a luscious neighbor named Destiny.  Christian doesn't believe in fate.  But one look at Destiny and he's seeing a whole new future."

Q. What are you currently reading?

Right now, I'm reading ‘At Last’ by Jill Shalvis.  Totally hooked on her Lucky Harbor series!

Q. Who is your favorite author and what is it that really strikes you about their work?

Actually, I have three.  Linda Howard, Lori Foster and Jill Shalvis are my go-to authors.  They're gifted storytellers who create smokin' hot heroes like the ones I adore.

Q. Please tell us your latest news (book-related or not!).

My daughter recently graduated from Law school.  First lawyer in the family.  Proud mama!

Q. Please tell us a fun-fact about yourself!

Underneath my quiet, reserved persona is a silly girl who loves to make people laugh!

Q. Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?

Thank you so much for choosing my stories.  I really do try to write with a lot of heart and heat.  Nothing is more rewarding than a reader who enjoys my work.  It's the ultimate gift!

'The Right Temptation’ is available July 1st at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, iTunes and digital bookstores everywhere.

  2. I love that Ms. Escalera was brave enough to pursue her writing career. It was wise of her to take a class when first starting out. She sets a good example for others.
