As a Level Eight telepath, I am the best police interrogator in the department. But I’m not a cop—I never will be—and my only friend on the force, Homicide Detective Isabella Cherabino, is avoiding me because of a telepathic link I created by accident.

And I might not even be an interrogator for much longer. Our boss says unless I pull out a miracle, I’ll be gone before Christmas. I need this job, damn it. It’s the only thing keeping me sane.

Parts for illegal Tech—the same parts used to bring the world to its knees in the Tech Wars sixty years ago—are being hijacked all over the city. Plus Cherbino's longtime nemesis, a cop killer, has resurfaced with a vengeance. If I can stay alive long enough, I just might be able to prove my worth, once and for all...

Review: Adam is a Level Eight telepath and a consulting interrogator for the police, but his abilities are severely crippled at the moment (see Clean) and with departmental budget cuts he may soon no longer have a job. There are very few things keeping him from diving back down in the world of drugs: his job, his NA sponsor, and his Link with Detective Isabella Cherabino. A former student of Adam’s has been murdered and her death leads to the discovery that the cop-killer Cherabino’s after has come back. Now Adam’s under a Guild investigation, the FBI is watching him, and on top of it all, illegal Tech is making its way into the wrong hands. It’s starting to look like history is doomed to repeat itself. With Adam’s abilities being temperamental at best, will he be strong enough to unravel the tangled web surrounding this case?

‘Sharp’ is an excellent second novel featuring the telepath-interrogator, Adam. Adam is also a recovering addict whose poor choices have cost him everything and he’s slowly rebuilding his life and the trust others used to have in him. It’s bad enough to be a telepath in a world where most ‘normals’ hate you, but then to have fallen from grace makes everything a lot worse. ‘Sharp’ is told from Adam’s point of view and I think he’s come a long way in his development over the series. The author has a knack for building and growing characters, especially as we only see them through Adam’s eyes (and their thoughts at times). ‘Sharp’ is very plot driven and suspenseful with many pieces of the mystery happening all at once, but the reader gets to unravel them along with Adam. I liked how the puzzle wasn’t one you could figure out way before the ending, because there were a lot of twists. I also enjoyed the more personal depth into Adam’s relationship with others. “The Mindspace Investigations” series is definitely one you want to pick up if you haven’t already! ‘Sharp’ is a magnificent blend of dystopia, science fiction, and mystery; featuring well-rounded characters, great plot, and excellent dialogue. I highly recommend this book and this series!

Mindspace Investigations series: Clean (1), Payoff (Novella), Sharp (2)
