Synopsis: Three very different young teens, Emily, the shy one, Adriane, the outsider, and Kara, the power shopper, are all drawn to a secret place deep in the woods where they discover a portal to another world. Wondrous animals have emerged from the portal, desperately seeking the magic that will keep them alive. Though the animals are peaceful and good, what follows them through the portal is twisted and evil and bent on destroying them all.

The Fairimentals have chosen these three fourteen-year-olds to protect the magical animals. To save them and their world, the girls must overcome their differences and band together. They begin a perilous quest to discover Avalon, the lost, legendary home of magic, little knowing the terrible dangers they will face along the way.

Review: Emily, who has recently moved to a rural town after her parents’ divorce, makes an amazing discovery when a magical animal who has been grievously injured is brought to her mother's veterinary practice for treatment. Now she realizes magic is real and she must team up with two other girls to protect the magic from an evil like no other. Once these girls, Emily, Adriane, and Kara, come together they are charged by the Fairimentals to find Avalon and keep the magic safe from the Dark Sorceress.

Each of the girls charged with keeping Avalon safe brings their own strengths (and weaknesses), as well as their new-found magical powers, to the group. Emily is kind-hearted and helpful, Adriane is caring and mysterious, and Kara is selfish with a core of strength. Together they must save the magical creatures from the coming evil while searching for the lost home of magic, Avalon. ‘Circles in the Stream’ is the first book in the Avalon series and will appeal to younger fans of books like the Harry Potter series. Combining magic, animals, and a vicious evil, Ms Roberts has created a fantastical world readers will want to visit time and time again. I liked the characters, especially Emily, and I loved the magical animals! I feel this series is great for younger readers, but all readers will find something they enjoy. I am looking forward to see where Ms. Roberts takes this series!
