Interview: Q. How did you come up with the idea for Luminescence?
I have always been fascinated with fantasy, witches, magic… pretty much anything paranormal. These are the kinds of books I’m drawn too, so when I started to piece together ideas I knew immediately who I wanted to write for. My husband constantly tells me that I live in fairyland. I always have my nose stuck in a book or daydreaming.
Q. Is there a message in Luminescence that you want readers to grasp?
I think the overall message in Luminescence is finding who you are during the teenage years. So much goes on and then when you add in some paranormal elements that change your life, it’s a whole new ball game.
Q. If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything about the book?
Hmmm… I think what I would change most would be more editing. I don’t think you can have enough editing and a beta reader helps.
Q. What was the hardest part of writing Luminescence?
The hardest part for me was exposing myself. I feel like the books I write are a part of me, and I fall a little in love with the characters. It will be hard to end the story and say goodbye.
Q. Did you learn anything from writing Luminescence and what was it?
Oh man. I actually learned a lot. I learned that rejection didn’t mean that my writing sucks. I learned that I am not a very good editor ;) And I also learned that I absolute love writing!
Q. Did you have a musical playlist you listen to when writing? If so, what kind of music?
Sappy love sounds. I actually listen to a ton of country music, Taylor Swift is my fav.
Q. Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?
My interest in writing stemmed from reading. From the time I was a little girl, there were stories running rampage in my head. It was a creative outlet along with reading that has just stuck.
Q. Who is your favorite author and what is it that really strikes you about their work?
Nora Roberts, hands down. I like most of her older series, especially the ones with Irish elements and fantasy. What I like most about her books is the emotional depth and connection I feel with her characters. I enjoy books that captivate me so much that I am consumed with them - what I call all-nighters.
Q. Tell us your latest news.
I have a new book being released in September for a new series called Divisa. It is a YA Paranormal Romance and the first book is called Saving Angel. There will also be a prequel released by the end of the year along with book 2 of the Luminescence series, Amethyst Tears. So much going on 0_o
Q. Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?
I just really want to have fun with my readers and stay connected with them. I really enjoy being involved in the whole process and love the feedback I get from book lovers like me. It’s a blast being able to be interactive.
