Synopsis: Ever since Tory Brennan and her friends rescued Cooper, a kidnapped wolf pup with a rare strain of canine parvovirus, they've turned from regular kids into a crime-solving pack. But now the very place that brought them together - the Loggerhead Island Research Institute - is out of funding and will have to shut down. That is, unless the Virals can figure out a way to save it.

So when Tory learns of an old Charleston legend about a famous she-pirate, Anne Bonney, whose fortune was never found, she can't believe her luck - buried treasure is exactly what she needs to save the Institute on Loggerhead! Trouble is, she and her friends aren't the only ones looking for it. And this time, the Virals' special powers may not be enough to dig them out of trouble...

Review: Seizure is the second book in the Virals series by Ms. Reichs. Tory and her friends are still not fully in control of their ‘flares’ yet and are practicing as often as they can. When the kids find out they might have to be separated due to budget cuts and closing of the facility where their parents work, Tory wants to find a way to stick together and save their parents’ jobs. While at one of the society functions she absolutely hates, Tory learns the story of the female pirate, Anne Bonny, and the treasure she may have secreted close by. Can Tory and her friends find the treasure first and save the day or will the others out for the big score who have no problem taking care of anyone in their way prevail…?

Seizure is a great addition to this series! I felt that Seizure is actually a better story than Virals, but you couldn’t get there without the path set down in Virals. I loved the spice of pirate history and treasure brought to life. I hope it encourages readers to do some research into the wild history of pirates in general and female pirates in particular. A modern day Nancy Drew with a science fiction twist, Seizure is full of mystery, adventure, and great characters – a fun and engaging read!

Virals Series: Virals (1), Seizure (2), Code (3)
