Synopsis:
A gripping tale of a girl with a morbid ability that could lead her to a killer...and the boy who would never let anything happen to her.

Sixteen-year-old Violet Ambrose is grappling with two major issues: Jay Heaton and her unusual so-called gift. While her confusing feelings for her best friend are new, she has been able to sense dead bodies - or at least those that have been murdered - and the imprints that attach to their killers since she was a little girl. Violet has never considered her ability useful, but now that a serial killer has begun terrorizing her small town she realizes she might be the only person who can stop him.

Fiercely protective of her, Jay agrees to help Violet search for the murderer. But even as she's falling in love, Violet is getting closer to discovering a killer...and becoming his prey herself.

Review: Violet has inherited a rare - and undesirable - family trait...she can sense the dead. Not like ghosts or spirits, but she can sense where the bodies of animals and people who have died by other than natural causes lay. Only a few people know about it - her family and her best friend, Jay. When a serial killer starts targeting close to home, Violet chooses to search for the killer...but will the killer find her first??

Aside from her 'gift', Violet's an ordinary girl. She's got a best friend, Jay, but she doesn't know how to deal with her newfound feelings for him. To make matters worse, girls start disappearing in neighboring towns and when they turn up dead the authorities determine that there's a serial killer at work. I highly enjoyed this concept written in the YA arena. One things I liked the most is that Ms. Derting doesn't talk down to her younger audience. The dialogue, plot, and characters Ms. Derting has created in The Body Finder makes for a very fun and fast read. This story is keep-you-in-your seat exciting and I can't wait to read more of Violet's adventures!

The Body Finder series: The Body Finder (1), Desires of the Dead (2), The Last Echo (3), "untitled" (4)
