January DNF's

The Lying GameI tried hard to get into this book but the genre I think is just not my thing. Considering I couldn't read 'The Lovely Bones' or 'PLL' (which the back-flap describes this book sort of as) I expected this. I just felt like everything was over explained and I just couldn't get into it. Cover is gorgeous though.

Vixen (The Flappers)I also couldn't get into this story. I think the whole flipping back and forth between characters was disorienting. I think that the concept is cool and the look into a fascinating period in American history was very cool. This book is like a 20's version of Gossip Girl. So if you like drama and intrigue this book is definitely for you.

  1. Interesting post. I haven't read either of those books, though Vixen is on my shelf to read. I just finished the first Pretty Little Liars book, and I enjoyed it. It wasn't anything spectacular, but it was enjoyable, so I'd say that The Lying Game would be an alright read.
I did not enjoy The Lovely Bones - something about the writing style that I could not stand.

Thanks for your input on these books!

  2. That's funny, I've started the lying game at least three times and just can't get into it. I'm glad it's not just me!

  3. I also didn't finish The Lying Game, too soap opera-ish for me, lol. And I still need to read Vixen, it's on my shelf.

  4. I really enjoyed Vixen...Maybe I was in the right mood? Or, I just can't get enough of the 1920's...

  5. I enjoyed VIxen, but it took a long time to get good. At the end of Part I is where is really began to pick up.

  6. Couldn't agree more! Lying Game was a real struggle for me to finish, and I couldn't really get into Vixen at all.
