Synopsis:
While other teenage girls daydream about boys, Calla Tor imagines ripping out her enemies’ throats. And she wouldn’t have it any other way. Calla was born a warrior and on her eighteenth-birthday she’ll become the alpha female of the next generation of Guardian wolves. But Calla’s predestined path veers off course the moment she saves the life of a wayward hiker, a boy her own age. This human boy’s secret will turn the young pack's world upside down and forever alter the outcome of the centuries-old Witches' War that surrounds them all.

Review: Calla's not like other girls, in fact, she's not human at all. Calla's a Guardian, a werewolf, who watches over the Keepers to make sure they and their precious secrets are safe. Calla's also not like other Guardians, either - she's the alpha female who will be one of the leaders of the new Guardian pack. But things start to change when she meets Shay - a human she saves from a vicious animal attack. A human she should have let die. Now she's on a different road and can turn to no one else but Shay.

I have to say this is a very different and intriguing universe. I liked Calla, Ren, and Shay, but the other Guardians seem to be a little two-dimensional. I hope that they can be developed a little more in the next book. Plus, not a lot gets explained until the very end and then the lights go out - literally. I will still definitely read the next installment in the Nightshade as it's gotten it's teeth in me...and won't let go until I find out the rest.

Nightshade series: Nightshade (1), Wolfsbane (2), Treachery (2.5), Bloodrose (3)

  5. I just reviewed this book today, too. I think I liked it a bit better. I actually thought it was interesting that the secondary characters weren't just foibles or only background noise - I thought it was cool that most of them seemed to have a backstory or good reason as to why they acted the way they did. Especially in Sabine's case. I’m really looking forward to Wolsbane!
