Mae has always thought of herself as in control, but in the last few weeks her life has radically changed. She's learned that her brother, Jamie, has magical powers, and the leader of the Obsidian Circle is trying to persuade Jamie to join the magicians. The same magicians who already tried to kill them both, and who get their powers from feeding people to demons.

Mae turns to brothers Nick and Alan to help her rescue Jamie, but they are in danger themselves. With Nick as unreadable as ever, and Alan making secret bargains with a demon, Mae forms her own plan to beat the magicians - only to find that nothing, and nobody, is what they seem.

Review: This book starts out and it's been just about a month since Mae and her brother Jamie returned home to Exeter and went back to life as it was before the Ryves’ turned their world upside down. By going to parties with her friends and flirting with boys, Mae's trying hard to avoid thinking about the knife hidden in her dresser drawer and the dangerous memories it represents. When some magicians threaten her and her brother once more, Mae does the only thing she can think of and calls Alan. If Mae doesn't put the pieces of the puzzle together in time, she might not have a future with anyone to worry over.

This is a great addition to the trilogy that started with “The Demon’s Lexicon”. The characters continue to grow and evolve through more harrowing and life-changing events. If you liked the first one, definitely pick this book up!
