First I want to say thank you to Monica for asking me to guest post today. Just as everyone has different reactions and opinions on books, I feel the same attitude is addressed to reviewing. My main objective when I sit down to write a review is obviously to let my readers know whether this book is worth picking up. It’s funny because I forget sometimes that people read what I write. I know that sounds silly because I write a public blog – but it hits me when I receive an email from someone telling me that they bought a book based on my recommendation. I then break into a full sweat to see if they agree with me or not. So, for me, being honest in a review is essential. If I don’t give a book 4.5 or 5 stars, there is a reason. And I think it is important to relay that information to the readers. I also think being respectful is extremely important. Authors are very hard working individuals. I am not going to like every book I read – and I munch on Rolaids when I post a negative review. But that is just.
I think I also have a bit more of a laid back style at Smexy. If I love a book, I am going to gush and pimp it out to everyone I know. I love to talk about the men, and all the hot smexy action – I mean come on, we are reading romance!
One of my quirks when I read a book, is to use post it notes to mark plot points or quotes, or just situations in the book I find enjoyable. After I finish the book, I immediately sit down and write my summary and thoughts out. Later, I go back through each sticky note to make sure there wasn’t something I wanted to talk about that I forgot. There are some out there that find my post it note practice a little…odd. But it has become . I have to do it while I read. I tend to read a couple of weeks ahead of when I am going to post the review, so it gives me plenty of time to make sure I have everything in there I want to talk about. I am slightly OCD when it comes to planning and scheduling and that really helps me keep the blog organized and on track.
I love that there are so many different styles of reviews out there – short, long, funny, straight to the point. I hope after reading one of my reviews, you get a feel for the book, whether positive or negative and I hope you find many books with a lot of Smexy action!
