Library Organization - DONE!...for today at least!

Ok, here is my angry rant part of this post:

WTF IKEA?!? I bought 7 of a certain bookcase and you guys just decide to discontinue them. It's all a ploy so I had to buy different bookcases that are more expensive to try and match the ones I already own. You are on my list!

*SIGH*

Ok, so I redid the library with a moderate amount of help from my husband, we took all the books off the shelves and stacked them on the floor, then we organized by author's last name and then re-shelved them. They are organized by fiction, author's last name, non-fiction, anthologies, to be reviewed, and Arthurian shelf :D Check out the videos and let me know what you think!

  1. I am VERY jealous that I don't have nearly as much room for my books as you. I have my favorites on a big 6" shelf and 4 wall mounted shelves but the rest are in boxes in the basement :( Looks great!

  2. Oh wow! I know what you mean about IKEA discontinuing the bookshelves after you've bought the store out! Oh man, I can so go on a rant with you! I have what I affectionately call my "book room" and I'm so very envious of your organization!!! I can't call it a library because any librarian in her right mind would take one look and RUN! I know that took lots of time and energy - looks awesome!!!

  3. Love it! I can't wait to move into our new house so that we can turn the loft into a library. My father in law laughs at me for organizing fiction by author but I'd never find anything if I didn't!

  5. It looks so awesome!!! You have so many shelves woman! You actually have space for more books now :)

Is that room a dedicated library? That couch looks very comfortable. One day, I will have a room that will be my library. One day.....

  8. OK so I need to win the lottery so I can buy a bigger house & have my own library LOL! I'm very jealous of your nicely organised shelves - I really really need to sort my books out! I'll get there eventually I guess :o)

  9. Very nice! You have a nice, airy room with plenty of space for shelves.

I have a few more weeks of school and then I'm going to tackle my library. I have no room for more bookshelves so I have to utilize the tops and I'm going to have to come up with a creative strategy for stacking them in front of the shelves as well. I think I'm going to have to make all the books stack sideways instead of upright. I have 1700+ fiction and probably over 1000 in non-fiction and Christmas. I have the fiction organized by author and non-fiction by category. I was perplexed by Angela's comment that her father laughs at her organizing fiction by author. Isn't that the way it's supposed to be? I know the library organizes fiction alphabetically by author...otherwise, how do you find what you're looking for?! As Stacy said, if anyone saw the state of my library now, they would think they were in the middle of a horror movie...LOL!

Anyway, sorry for rambling! Love what you did. =O) I will be posting pics of mine when I get done.
